7 Suspected Kidnappers Paraded In Court

Kampala: Seven people who were arrested recently on suspicion of kidnapping and robbing a businesswoman in western Uganda have today appeared in court.

Police Spokesperson, Fred Enanga told journalists during the police briefing on Monday at the police headquarters in Naguru that the suspects face charges of aggravated robbery and kidnap with intent to get ransom. The seven suspects, who are accused of allegedly staging kidnaps in Greater Kigezi Region especially in Kanungu district, appeared before the Kanungu Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

The suspects are identified as; James Ntagirimana, Joram Akankwasa, Mathias Kananura, Yoweri Mugabo, Hakim Tumwebaze, Dennis Kyarisiima and a one Imanirakuha. According to Enanga, Ntagirimana and Akankwasa kidnapped Jamilah Turyahebwa, a businesswoman, from whom they robbed Shs20M on April 3, 2019. Enanga said that “Two more suspected kidnappers were picked up in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the repatriation process is in high gear.” He added that the same suspects connived with Onesmus Byaruhanga to kidnap US tourist Kimberly Sue Endecott from Queen Elizabeth National Park on April 2, 2019, although she was later rescued with her driver Jean-Paul Mirenge after the kidnappers receiving ransom of over Shs100m.
