Kampala: The days of flying Ugandan government officials and tycoons to Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya, for specialised medical attention are soon to end.
This is because we have learnt that the Aga Khan Foundation is set to construct a multibillion ultra modern hospital in Kampala. According to sources, facility will handle all sophisticated medical problems like heart and brain surgeries, fertility issues, transplants, among others. Those privy to the project have revealed to this website that his Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni together with His Highness the Aga Khan, will in July 2019 perform the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of the world class hospital.
As part of preparations for the project kickoff, President Museveni on Wednesday met with the diplomatic representatives of the Aga Khan Development Network and senior executive team from the Aga Khan University Mr Firoz Rasul, at Entebbe State House. The President and his visitors discussed the final designs and construction programme for the new world class teaching hospital, with its associated education and housing facilities, planned for Kampala.
The government of Uganda forks out hundreds of millions of shilling fromm the treasury each year to send public servants and politicians abroad for specialised medical attention because some of the top hospitals in the country lack the required facilities and equipment for handle some complicated medical cases. However, after the construction of the Aga Khan hospital, all that will be history.
