Kampala: The rate at which female mobile money dealers  are being shot dead by armed robbers has become so worrying that many businesswomen are spoon shunning the business.

Just a few days after a popular mobile money dealer and her worker being shot dead by armed robbers in Zzana, along Entebbe Road, another one has been killed in Rubaga division.  Juliet Nabaasa, a mobile money attendant in Nakulabye, a suburb of Kampala, was killed on Friday night by unknown gunmen, shot sprayed her vehicle with bullets, injuring another person whom she was traveling with in her car.

The Police say that Nabaasa was reportedly shot dead at around 10:00 P.m. on Friday night, by unknown armed robbers, who intercepted her in Kayiwa Zone, along Balintuma Road in Rubaga Division. She was heading home driving in a motor vehicle registration number UBD 008P which was being driven by Twaha Lukwago. The driver of the vehicle sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment at Mengo Hospital.

Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said that “Preliminary investigations indicate that the motive of the assailants was to end her life.” He added that “Police recovered four submachine gun cartridges and a bag with Shs6m, believed to belong to the deceased.” Owoyesigyire says eyewitnesses indicated that the killers were riding on two motorcycles with invisible number plates.  However, this is the third mobile money operator to be shot dead in one month. On June 10, Harriet Naluwadde, 33, and Moreen Nakabubi, 25, were shot dead in Zana along Entebbe Road by thugs who reportedly went away with an unspecified amount of money. Police have since arrested three deserters of the Uganda People’s Defense Forces in connection to city mobile money armed robberies. They are Stanley Muluta alias Frank Jjumba, Emma Onen Ochan and Denis Mwanguhya.  However, this has not stopped  the armed robberies from being perpetrated, which has left most  Ugandans fearing that there could be more several armed robbers on the loose.
