Kampala: Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has hailed Candia Luiji, a businessman in Arua, for being a great man.

Candia, who was  the owner of Arua Pacific Hotel, died under unclear circumstances over the weekend.

It should be recalled that Arua Pacific Hotel is the facility that was raided by military and police in August 2018 during the Arua By-election fracas.

The stampede at the said hotel left Bobi Wine’s driver Yasin Kawuma shot dead and several People Power supporters who included legislators and voters arrested.

Despite state allegations that Bobi Wine, Kassiano Wadri had been arrested with gun at Pacific Hotel, Candia shocked the nation when  he came out and vehemently refuted the allegations. He maintained that neither Bobi Wine, nor any other client at the hotel had been found with any guns. He also asserted that security personnel had not only disrupted business at his hotel but also tarnished the facility’s image, on top of ransacking all rooms.

Bob Wine tweet about Hotel Pacific

While hailing Candia for his valiance, Bobi Wine on Sunday tweeted thus;

“Mr. Candia Luiji, owner of Pacific hotel- Arua where I stayed before my brutal arrest and torture last year has passed on. He stood his ground & refused to be compromised and lie that I entered the hotel with guns and bullets which were paraded by the state. A good man! RIP sir.”

However, it is not yet clear what caused Candia’s sudden death although we shall keep you updated as details come in.
