Court Adjourns Bobi Wine, 34 Others Treason Case To Next Year

Gulu Grade One Magistrate Isaac Imoran Kintu has ordered the State to expedite investigations into treason case against Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine and 34 others to avoid further inconveniences.

“I urge the prosecution team to speed up inquiries to ensure that an expeditious trial is issued. I also observed that most of the accused persons come from outside of this jurisdiction and in fact, none of them comes from within the locality of this jurisdiction,” he said.

Mr Kintu made the remarks at Gulu Magistrate’s Court on Monday while adjourning the case to January 10th next year after police said their investigations are incomplete.

Bobi Wine, his Arua Municipality counterpart Kassiano Wadri, and 26 co-accused had appeared before the court presided for mention of their case.

However, Prosecution led by Mr Paul Weponde told court that they were not ready to proceed with the case since the police have not yet submitted evidence to them.

The state contends that the accused stoned one of President Museveni’s cars, smashing it hind windscreen on August 13 during Arua Municipality by-election campaigns.

“My lord, as usual, the police is not yet done with the investigation, we pray for adjournment,” Mr Weponde submitted.

However, this angered the defence team led by Mr Henry Komakech Kilama, who argued that the accused persons are incurring a lot of expenses travelling from Kampala and Arua to attend the court sessions.

Mr Kilama also asked court to issue fresh summons to CID officers from Arua and Gulu districts to explain about his clients’ properties that were confiscated from them during custody such as vehicles, IPads, phones, laptops and money.

In response, the magistrate, while adjourning the case, said he needs some time to acquaint himself with the facts of the case given the fact that he is handling it for the first time.

He replaced Yunus Ndiwalana who was transferred in October.
