Day Two Of Lake Albert Tragedy: 15 Bodies Retrieved, Many Still Missing

Hoima:The hunt for victims of the boat that capsized on Lake Albert on Sunday afternoon has entered Day 3, with the rescue team recovering 15 bodies.

By the close of yesterday, the UPDF and Uganda police marine had been reinforced with divers and equipment  to help them search for other bodies, after retrieving the 15 corpses. However, it is feared that over thirty people, who include footballers and their supporters  drowned as they sailed to Runga Landing site for a football match on Sunday May 19th, 2019. Baker Ogen, the Fofo landing site LC I Chairperson, said that at the time of the tragedy, the players and the Football fans  were heading to Runga landing site in Kibiro parish Kigorobya sub county Hoima district for a football match.  

All the deceased and the survivors are residents of Fofo Landing site in Tonya Parish Buseruka sub county Hoima district. Some of the deceased have been identified as only Bob,Fisto,Jango,Ayera, Majid Mayaya,Omirambe,Bondhe and Opakrwoth.  Others are Dhebaba,Nyayenga,Winnie,Kothu and Anifa.  Some of the surviours are Emmanuel Ageno 20, Jalum Oakani 22, Sara Maurine 24,Rose Chikawun 18,Kenneth Twesige 20, Madithrwoth Thie 18 and Godfrey Alimula 22. Other are Zawadi Rundi 20, Warom Oyirwoth 27, Mubaraka 19,  Damas Oyirwoth 18, Oyergiu 16,Oringi and Asumani among others. But the hunt for other missing persons is still going on, being conducted by the UPDF and Police marine rescue team, with the help of local fishermen.
