More than one thousand intern Doctors are back on strike for failure by Ministry of Health to release their January allowances.

At the end of last year, the government pledged to cater for their allowances but up to now, they still lack medical supplies and inclusion in the development of the national internship policy.

Dr. Robert Lubega, the President of the Medical Interns Association while addressing journalists at Mulago Guest House in Kampala on Wednesday, revealed that their industrial action commenced at midnight on Wednesday.

“The decision to strike has been caused by Government’s failure to provide them (Interns) with medical supplies and also failing to pay their salaries and allowances”, said Dr.Robert.

Robert revealed that 61 of their colleagues have spent three months starting November 2017 without a pay while 970 medical interns across the country have not received their January salary.

Meanwhile, the State Minister for Health and General Duties Sarah Opendi in her response argued that the strike was uncalled for since the  list of interns for payments had already been sent to their respective placements and their money would be deposited unto their accounts this week.
