Rukungiri: The police in Rukungiri police are holding a 23-year-old man identified as Ivan Tushabomwe over allegations of killing his fiancé identified as Scovia Kyomuhangi, 26 years .
It is alleged that Tushabomwe, a resident of Kasoni cell, Rubirizi parish in Nyarushanje Sub-county, has been in deep love with now late Kyomuhangi, who was a resident of Kanyabwanga Sub-county in Mitooma district, until he suspected her of cheating on him. The incident happened on Sunday morning in Nyabubare cell, Nyabubare parish Bwambara Sub-county, although the cause of the act isn’t clear. However, George Naboth Bampabwire, the chairperson Nyabubare LC 1 said that the couple could have had misunderstandings at night which resulted into a bitter fight and consequently Kyomuhangi’s murder.
ASP, Benon Walubo urged the public to always report to police their misunderstandings for possible solution but not taking rules in their hands as if the country has no authorities to help them. He also called upon local council chairpersons to always record biographies of residents in their areas as a way of identifying criminals. According to the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson Elly Matte, the blood-stained panga, trousers and shirt of the suspect were recovered from the scene. Matte added that the cause of the murder is suspected cheating. The deceased’s body was taken at Rwakabengo health center II in Rukungiri municipality for postmortem as investigations continue. The suspect will be arraigned in court to face murder charges when investigations are completed.
