Manji Foods Industries Ltd (Kenya) in conjunction with its sister company Britania Allied Ind.Ltd (Uganda)  have launched a valentine special treat to their loyal customers to further re-affirm their true affection to their lovers on this Valentines’ day!

According to Ms.Treza Birungi, Britania’s Marketing Manager, all a lover needs to do today is simply to present a well thought after, carefully chosen from the rest and wrapped Chocolate Digestive/Choc Fingers or Chocolate Biscuits accompanied with a free SWISS WATER WAFER from us to their lover! “Really, you’ve been telling your lover how love him/her since last year, so let today be a different, let your gift represent your feelings today and that can’t be any other than what we’ve wrapped for you as accompany” Treza said yesterday in an exclusive interview with this reporter at their company offices in Ntinda yesterday.

According to Treza, customers will access these valentine goodies today from Capital Shoppers Nakawa, Ntinda, Cynibel Kiwatule, Lweza, Embassy Nsambya, Fraine, Game Lugogo, Jazz Bugolobi, Kenjoy Bukoto, Nansana, Master, Mega Standard Garden City, Opp.Old Taxi Park, Quality Kitende, Lubowa, Namugongo, Martin Road, Shoprite Clock Tower, Lugogo, Standard Old Taxi Park, Times Investment Ltd and Top shop Mengo Super Markets.

Manji Food Industries Limited acquired “House Of Manji” brand of biscuits since 2002. The House Of Manji brand is a 60 year old brand that has remained a household favourite through generations operating from Nairobi Kenya while leading the entire region.

Both Manji Food Industries Limited and Uganda based Britania Allied Ind.Ltd are now part of the renowned Dawda Group of companies.

House Of Manji had humble beginnings as a bakery in Ngara manufacturing bread. The business flourished for quite sometime until wheat rationing during world war two and prolification of similar businesses made business more and more difficult to run and the founder saw a niche in the market for biscuits and thus House Of Manji was born.

The House Of Manji factory was set up at Industrial Area, Nairobi and was officially inaugurated by none other than the governor of Kenya Sir Evelyn Baring during a colorful and extravagant ceremony with an attendance of more than 2000 guests. Some of their products still bear the name ‘Baring’ in his honor.

Manji grew in leaps and bounds to become a household name greatly enjoyed in Kenya and the East African region. The “Family” and “Marie” biscuits went on to win the prestigious La Monde selection gold medal awards in Brussels, Belgium.

Manji also produced “Fambiks” biscuits for the United Nations sponsored relief effort in Central Africa and for many years also supplied the armed forces with service biscuits for their combo rations.

From 2001 to date, the brand name “House Of Manji” never ceased to be. Under the new proprietors Manji Food Industries Limited who took over the mantle from November 2002 under the chairmanship of Dr. H. P. Dawda the company regained its prominent position.

Manji Food Industries has increased brand presence in the market with the introduction of new products that are manufactured for every pocket while maintaining the essential quality that has stood the test of time.

Though hearts and roses are red, retailers and business owners see the green of MONEY when it comes to celebrating the holiday. Below are some fast facts about the Valentine’s holiday.

FACT ONE: The celebrating of Valentine’s Day ranks number one in the United States in chocolate candy sales. Annual spending in 2014 for the holiday was more than 13 billion dollars. U.S. consumers spend an average of around $116 on gifts and merchandise.

FACT TWO: Teachers receive the most Valentine’s cards, followed by children, mothers, wives, and then sweethearts. Children ages 6 to 10 exchange more than 650 million cards with teachers, classmates, and family members. Additionally, 196 million roses are produced to celebrate the holiday.

ORIGIN OF THE DAY

In 313 A.D., Roman Emperor Constantine the Great legalized Christianity and ended Rome’s persecution of Christians. In 380 A.D., Christianity becomes the OFFICIAL state religion of the Roman Empire. These actions not only enabled the teachings of Christianity to spread unhindered within the empire, it encouraged non-Christians to convert to the once-persecuted religion.

The pagans, however, who adopted Christianity as their religion did not entirely abandon the traditions and practices they held before their “conversion.” One of these traditions brought into the church was the fertility celebration known as the Lupercalia, which eventually became the Valentine’s holiday.

“Yet the vestiges of superstition were not absolutely obliterated, and the festival of the Lupercalia, whose origin had preceded the foundation of Rome, was still celebrated under the reign of Anthemius”.
