Gulu: High Court in Gulu has Monday granted bail to Mityana Municipality Member of Parliament Francis Zaake, who was recently charged with treason and sent on remand in Gulu Prison.

His lordship Steven Mubiru, Gulu resident judge granted Zaake a non-cash bail of Shs5 million and his three sureties non-cash bail of Shs10m each.

Zaake was on Friday 22 February 2019 re-arrested  moments after being granted bail by Arua Chief Magistrates Court where he was facing charges of escaping from lawful custody, but had secured a Shs50 million non-cash bail.

Ms Nesma Ocokoru, the Arua Hill Division chairperson and Mr Mathew Akile, a councillor in Arua Municipality, stood surety for the MP.

However, after completing the bail process in the court chambers, plain-clothed policemen re-arrested him as he walked out of the court premises and rushed him to Gulu High Court to face treason charges. He joined the other 35 being charged for allegedly stoning the presidential convoy car in Arua last year during a Bye-election where Kassiano Wadri emerged victorious.
