President Yoweri Museveni and his counterpart  Paul Kagame of Rwanda are set to discuss the diplomatic tensions between the countries in Angola.

Museveni on Wednesday left for Angola’s capital Luanda, where he is set to attend a quadripartite summit to further the dialogue aimed at finding a lasting solution to the differences between Rwanda and Uganda.

At Entebbe Airport Museveni was seen off by the Minister for the Presidency Esther Mbayo, the Head of Civil Service John Mitala and Chief of Defence Forces General David Muhoozi

Kagame and Museveni  will be hosted by President Joao Manuel Lourenco  for the quadripartite that will also be attended by DR Congo President Felix Tshisekedi

The long running diplomatic impasse between Uganda and Rwanda was escalated earlier in March, following the closure by Rwanda of its border at Katuna and Kyanika.

Rwanda accused Uganda among others of supporting rebels who want to  oust Kagame’s regime, allegations Uganda denied. Rwanda also accused Uganda of allegedly detaining several Rwandans in various detention centres around the country without producing them in courts of law.

This will however be the second attempt at solving the impasse, because in July, the heads of state discussed relations between Uganda and Rwanda.

They also discussed the Ebola epidemic in the DR Congo and committed to work together to prevent the spread of the epidemic.

Both Ugandans and Rwandans are waiting for the outcome of the summit, because the standoff has severely impacted on the lives of people in the two countries.
