President Yoweri Museveni is set to address Ugandan Musicians to find ways of solving problems in the Music Industry plus sensitizing them on how and why they should distance selves from the political wind blown by Kyadondo East legislator and people power founder Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine. Sources has revealed that Mzei Museveni’s blue eyed boy singer Moses Ssali alias Bebe Cool has been given responsibility of collecting fellow artists for the meeting scheduled to take place at the NRM’s ideology school-National Leadership Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi.

However, even before there is full confirmation of this meeting, several artistes are opposed to this idea accusing Uganda Performing Rights Society (UPRS)   of not putting them on the attendance list and seek specific reasons why they have been left out of the meeting.
President Museveni used these artists during his campaigns in 2016 under the ‘Tubonga nawe’ project but ever since, they allege that he has never turned up to discuss the challenges they face.

Drama actor Andrew Benon Kibuuka said the venue of the meeting should not be an issue, but the intention of the same and dismissed those politicizing the idea of meeting with President Museveni.

“There have been so many retreats, Museveni has met politicians,Members of Parliament and now he wants to meet artistes, there is nothing new in this,” he said.
“Every politician has opposition, even MPs too have those who don’t like them. So, if there are people who oppose this, it is up to them,” Kibuuka added.

According to musician Ykee Bender alias Wycliff Tugume, confirmed being part of the meeting with President Museveni because the retreat is aimed at finding solutions to the problems artistes are facing.

“The President simply wants to know problems from artistes directly from them. It is a face to face interaction with the president to make him understand our issues,” Benda said.

Singer Sophie Gombya, said that the artistes are not meeting the NRM Party chairman but Museveni in his capacity as head of state.

“We are going to meet the President not the chairman of NRM, Museveni is the president of the country and it is him we are meeting to discuss our problems with him. He is the fountain of honor and he has given us an opportunity to express ourselves.”

“When you conceive it that we are meeting the head of state, you will realize it is not important where we are meeting from.
