By Frank Kamuntu

Sportsmen and women have continued to lift Uganda’s high in other countries.

After Uganda Cranes 3-0 win over Burundi in the CHAN 2020 qualifiers, the She Cranes on Saturday also angrily crashed Zambia Queens National Team with 67 points against 33 points for Zambia, in the African Netball Championship in Cape Town, South Africa.

Following a line up of
Goal scorer: Mary Nuba,
Goal attacker: Irene Eyalu
Centre : Stella oyela
Wing attacker: Jesca Achan
Defenders: Joan Nanfuka and Stella Nanfuka, other players, the She Cranes acted like bees and stung Zambia till the end.

The She Cranes is said to have been empowered by the Zimbabwe National team who didn’t meet the time allocated for the match and ended up losing it, giving She Cranes two free points, which geared them into thrashing Zambia.

She Cranes scored 16 goals over Zambia and 10 of these were scored by Lucy Jere and Diana Banda in the first quarter. They ended up with a goal difference of 10 goals by half time to make it 29-19.

However in the second quarter, the Zambian Queens scored 6 goals against Uganda’s 22 goals, resulting in a 26-goal difference between the two sides. The quarter ended 51-25.

The She Cranes rose up again scoring more 16 goals against Zambia’s 5 goals in the final quarter and players like Stella Oyela and Jesca Achan who played as wing attackers, were key in this quarter, because they could not let Zambia’s Prisca Bunga, Gift Bunga and Juhet Kaputeni get past them to score.

But also a combination of Stella Nanfuka and Joan Nampungu, who played as defenders, created a tough situation for Zambia’s Jere and Banda who had scored the She Cranes after scoring 33 goals in a period of one hour.

She Cranes will next play against South Africa and Malawi which are strong teams too.
Meanwhile South Africa won Zimbabwe 69- 39, while Kenya defeated Lesotho with 74-24 goals.
