Suspected Serial Robber Gunned Down At Ministry Of Works

Police in Kampala have commenced investigations under which a suspected serial thief tried to break into the head of Ministry of Works’ offices at around 10:00pm.

After learning on something peculiar, security which mans the premises on Pot bell road managed to shoot the thug before he could make further moves and rob anything on the premises.

The suspected thug who was identified as Martin Bangi was shot several times in the legs to stop from escaping. He was later rushed to Mulago hospital for medical attention while bleeding profusely.

Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, SP Patrick Onyango Confirmed the incident saying that when the security got information of the attempted robbery, they tried to stop the suspect but he refused and went on his unlawful mission hence applying the force in order to deter him from committing a crime.

”When our officers at the ministry of works tried to stop an intruder from doing anything without permission the man went ahead ,they several times shot in air to disperse him but he refused and went on his mission .They had no option but to shoot him to disarm  him,” he said.

Onyango went on to say that some of the detectives are already deployed at Mulago Hospital monitoring his situation so that he doesn’t escape from the hospital bed.

He added that after recovering, police will interrogate him further to know his intentions of storming the ministry of works head offices when it was after working hours.

Onyango said that they will contact DPP to guide police to prefer charges of burglary, robbery and criminal trespass against him when he recovers.

In 2017, ministry of health in Wandegeya was attacked by unknown thugs who robbed vital documents and later torched all the offices. Up to now police is still investigating the matter to bring to book those who were behind the heinous act.
