What You Missed At The Premier Distiller’s Old Glen and 9Barrels Whisky Launch In UG

Kampala: Premier Distillers Limited, the distillers of Delight Dry Gin and other spirits, on Thursday unveiled unto the Ugandan market two new whiskeys from Scotland known as Old Glen and 9Barrels, during an event held at Hotel Africana.

Spy Uganda has learnt that Premier distillers Uganda LTD recently hitched a partnership deal with Angus Dundee Distillers PLC, a Scotch whisky distiller, and bottling company in the UK, to start supplying Old Glen and 9Barrels whiskys  in Uganda.

Speaking at the launch, the Business Development Manager for Angus Dundee Distillers PLC-Middle East and Africa, Gordon Ratcliffe, said this is the first time in the history of Uganda that Scotch whisky is being produced and sold in the country.

“We partnered with Premier Distillers back in 2017 and we came up with the recipe ourselves. We have the highest quality equipment installed at the plant here in Uganda,” Gordon said.

He added that “Our partnership with Premier Distillers is a unique and pioneering one and it will be a game changer in the industry.”

The Managing Director for Premier Distilleries, Sitaram Reddy thanked Angus Dundee for the partnership and for choosing to work with them and promote investments in  the Ugandan economy. The retail price for 9 Barrels and Old Glen are Shs50,000 and Shs35,000 respectively.

The chief guest and launcher of the two new whisky brands was the CEO Vivo Energy Gilbert Assi, who officially unveiled the two whiskey brands onto the Ugandan market.

In attendance also was the Youth MP for western Uganda Mwine Mpaka, plus several owners of bars and lounges in Kampala.

Scotch Whisky is a unique alcoholic drink, produced only in Scotland and for it to be legally called ‘Scotch Whisky’, it must have been distilled in Scotland from water, yeast, malted barley and other cereals. It must also be matured in Scotland for a minimum of 3 years in oak wood casks.
