13 Arrested for Burning Police Post

Kole: At least 13 people have been arrested by police on allegations that they engaged in the burning of a police post in Kole district.

Sources in the area reveal that the suspected stormed Kole police outpost to lynch two cattle thieves but when they failed to achieve what they wanted to do, they instead turned their wrath on the police pots. The suspects allegedly attacked the outpost on Monday, set it balaze and burnt two motorcycles. An eyewitness who preferred anonymity told SpyUganda that “It all started when residents attempted to lynch two suspected cattle thieves identified as Nelson Elum and his son-in-law Daniel Okello, who were in detention at Alemi Police Out-Post. However, they were overpowered by the police who fired live bullets and teargas at them.

The suspects, all residents of Alemi trading Centre, Ayer Sub County include; Bileo Ojok, Jack Nam, Thomas Okullo, Abraham Owera, Denis Onume, Vincent Okello, Daniel Ojok, and Moses Ogwang among others. Residents attempted to lynch North Kyoga Regional Police Commander, Peter Nkulega, said “The police is still hunting for 10 more suspects”. The police preferred charges of arson, malicious damage and threatening violence against the suspects.Julius Ongu, the Kole District community Liaison Officer said they had also embarked on community policing to sensitize against abuse of law. This however comes a few weeks after a mob in Kole district lynched four suspected cattle thieves.
