The Israel Defense Forces said it carried out overnight strikes in Tehran, including an attack on Mehrabad International Airport, which it claims was used to transport weapons to militant groups backed by Iran.

In a statement on Saturday, the Israeli military said the airport had served as a logistics hub for transferring arms and funds to regional allies, particularly Hezbollah in Lebanon. According to the military, 16 aircraft allegedly used in these operations were destroyed during the strike. Israeli officials also said several Iranian fighter jets were hit.

The aircraft were said to belong to the Quds Force, a branch of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps responsible for overseas operations. Israeli officials described the aircraft as part of a network used to supply weapons to Iran-aligned groups across the Middle East.

Footage circulating locally showed large plumes of smoke and flames rising over parts of Tehran after the strikes. The claims made by Israel could not be independently verified, and there was no immediate response from Iranian state media.

On Sunday, Israeli strikes reportedly expanded to include oil depots and refining facilities in Tehran. If confirmed, it would mark the first time energy infrastructure has been targeted during the current conflict.
The attacks sparked large fires across the city, with thick black smoke visible over several areas. Further details about casualties or the full extent of the damage were not immediately available.
