Kampala: It is a moment of grief after fire gutting New Crest Junior Day and Boarding Primary School in Kawempe Division leaving four pupils in ash state and three nursing deep injured.
Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire says the fire started at around 3am on Saturday.
Luke adds that the fire started from one of the female pupils’ dormitories. “This is an act of gross negligence that caused the death and injuries of the pupils,” says Luke.
As a result, Luke says a case file of causing death has been opened at Kawempe police station against the stakeholders.
”Police forensic experts from the Directorate of Fire and from the Forensics are documenting the scene. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased pupils. We also wish a quick recovery to the injured pupils,”says Luke.
He adds that the injured were evacuated to Kyadondo Hospital located in Kisowera Zone Kawempe and are being treated there accordingly.
