50 Ugandan MPs Test COVID-19 Positive After Arusha Parliamentary Games

Kampala: There is panic at Parliament following reports that over 50 MPs who returned from Arusha-Tanzania for the EAC Parliamentary games tested positive for COVID-19.

These come at a time when the world is on panic over the new deadly Omicron variant that has so far swept in most of the countries.

According to sources at parliament, the affected MPs and staff are being “managed by Ministry of Health and parliament health team.”

We have learnt that tests were conducted yesterday (December 20) in the conference hall as a requirement for MPs and staff returning from trips abroad to be tested for Covid-19 at parliament.

Meanwhile, according to data from the Ministry of Health, results of COVID-19 tests done on 18 December 2021 confirmed 357 new cases. The cumulative confirmed cases are now 129,676.

The breakdown of the new cases is: 344 Alerts And Contacts; Wakiso (153), Kampala (129), Tororo (37), Kalaki (4), Arua (1), Busia (1), Amuru (4), Kyotera (14), Kabale (1) 13 Truck drivers; Kyotera (12), Tororo (1).
