There are weddings, and then there are celebrations that linger in the hearts of everyone privileged to witness them. The union of Gerald Tumusiime and Kellen Kembabazi was undoubtedly one of those rare occasions—a graceful fusion of culture, faith, family values and enduring love that unfolded over two memorable days.
The celebrations began on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at the picturesque family home in Nyanama along Entebbe Road, where the bride’s family hosted a magnificent Kweranga (Introduction Ceremony). It was an event richly adorned with Tooro cultural heritage, elegant décor, colourful traditional attire, melodious cultural performances and heartfelt family moments.
Two days later, on Saturday, July 4, the couple exchanged holy vows before God at St. Augustine Chapel, Makerere University, in a breathtaking Holy Matrimony service before hundreds of family members, friends, colleagues and well-wishers. The celebrations later flowed into a glamorous reception at Tick Hotel, Kawempe, where joy, laughter and thanksgiving filled the atmosphere.
Indeed, it was more than a wedding, it was the joyful convergence of two families, two journeys and two destinies into one covenant.
A Love Story Written at Makerere
Like many beautiful stories, theirs quietly began within the halls of Makerere University.
Gerald and Kellen pursued the same academic programme and friendship gradually blossomed into love. After graduation, Gerald relocated to Ireland, where he has spent the last three years building his professional career.
Despite the distance, their commitment never wavered. Kellen patiently waited as both nurtured their relationship across continents until the day finally arrived when love triumphed over distance, culminating in a covenant blessed by both culture and the Church.
As Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 reminds us:
“Two are better than one… If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.” Their journey perfectly embodied that scripture.
Meet the Bride 
The radiant bride, Kellen Kembabazi, is as accomplished as she is graceful.
She began her education at Bridges Primary School Nyanama before joining Seeta High School Mukono for both Ordinary and Advanced Levels. She later graduated from Makerere University with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and currently serves as a Tax Officer at the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA).
During the introduction ceremony, her father described her as a woman of unwavering principles, emotional intelligence, humility, responsibility and respect—virtues he said had defined her from childhood.
He also revealed that although he encouraged her to immediately pursue a Master’s degree after graduation, Kellen chose first to establish her career before starting a family.
With a father’s unwavering confidence, he publicly renewed his promise to sponsor her postgraduate education, declaring that the offer still stood.
The Groom 
Gerald Tumusiime equally represents determination and resilience.
Having studied alongside Kellen at Makerere University, he later relocated to Ireland, where he has been working for the past three years.
His patience, commitment and steadfast love earned admiration from both families, culminating in his warm acceptance into the Irumba family during the traditional introduction ceremony.
The Patriarch Behind the Celebration
One of the most admired figures throughout the ceremonies was the bride’s father, Mr. Clovice Bright Irumba, a distinguished petroleum geoscientist whose professional achievements are matched only by his commitment to family.
Currently serving as Director for Exploration at the Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU), Mr. Irumba has accumulated over 23 years of distinguished service in Uganda’s petroleum sector.
His journey began in July 2002 at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, where he participated in pioneering geological studies across the Albertine Graben that helped establish Uganda’s petroleum potential.
Over the years, he became instrumental in promoting investment into Uganda’s petroleum industry, regulating exploration companies and contributing significantly to the formulation of Uganda’s petroleum laws and regulations that today govern one of Africa’s fastest-growing oil and gas sectors.
At the Petroleum Authority of Uganda, he has continued providing strategic leadership, including contributing to the formulation of Uganda’s new National Petroleum Policy, leading the development of the Authority’s 2025/26–2029/30 Strategic Plan, chairing key institutional committees and representing Uganda in the implementation of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI).
His academic credentials are equally impressive.
Irumba holds a Master of Science in Petroleum Geochemistry (with Distinction) from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne (United Kingdom), a Master of Laws in International Petroleum Law and Policy (with Distinction) from the University of Dundee (United Kingdom), a Diploma in Management of Petroleum Development and Operations from Stavanger, Norway, alongside numerous professional qualifications in petroleum geoscience, law, economics, leadership and management.
Yet, despite such an illustrious career, guests saw a different side of the accomplished petroleum expert—not the executive boardroom leader, but a proud father overflowing with gratitude as he entrusted his beloved daughter to another family.
Words That Touched Hearts
In a speech that resonated deeply with guests, Mr. Irumba warmly welcomed Gerald into the family.
Congratulating his new son-in-law, he remarked that Gerald had demonstrated remarkable wisdom by choosing Kellen as his life partner.
He also reminded the gathering that according to Tooro tradition, the introduction ceremony signifies the completion of marriage in customary law, with the church wedding serving as its sacred blessing before God. His heartfelt blessing over the couple drew admiration from many.
A Family Rooted in Excellence
The ceremony also showcased a family deeply committed to education.
Kellen’s younger siblings flawlessly coordinated the introduction ceremony.
Master of Ceremonies Alituha David is completing a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering at Makerere University.
Kalinda Davis is pursuing Civil Engineering at Makerere University.
Kamanda Elvis recently completed Advanced Level at Bishop Cipriano Kihangire (BCK) Secondary School Luzira, and is preparing to join medical school.
Meanwhile, Kemigisa Lydia Irumba is studying Mathematics, Economics and Geography at Gayaza High School, with hopes of following in her elder sister’s footsteps into economics.
Their remarkable teamwork reflected the discipline and unity instilled by their parents.
Pan-African Presence 
Among those introduced during the ceremony was Andrew Irumba Katusabe, founding Speaker and Chairman of Pan African Pyramid (PAP) and the Chief Executive Officer, TheSpy Uganda, a younger brother to Irumba Clovice and uncle to the bride.
The family recognized Irumba for his Pan-African advocacy and instilling African values in the family members including the bride, whose character, both inside and outside embody the true African woman, carefully groomed for purpose.
Love Crowned by Faith
As the newlyweds exchanged vows inside the historic St. Augustine Chapel, the atmosphere radiated reverence, hope and thanksgiving.
The ceremony beautifully echoed the timeless words of 1 Corinthians 13:4-8:
“Love is patient, love is kind… It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.”
For Gerald and Kellen, those verses are more than scripture—they mirror a relationship tested by distance, strengthened by patience and finally crowned with the blessings of family, culture and faith.
As guests departed after days filled with celebration, one message remained unmistakably clear: this was not merely the joining of a bride and groom, but the weaving together of two family legacies into one enduring covenant.
And if the warmth, elegance and overwhelming joy witnessed during both ceremonies are any indication, Gerald Tumusiime and Kellen Kembabazi have embarked on a journey whose strongest foundation is not simply love, but faith, patience, respect and the unwavering support of family.
May their union continue to flourish, just as Psalm 128:1 declares:
“Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in obedience to Him.”
