By Spy Uganda

Long serving senior Uganda Police officer Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Asuman Mugenyi, who was the Director of Operations, has since hanged his boots and retired from the Force.

We have learnt that AIGP Mugyenyi retired on Friday after his contract expired, after 32 years of active service in the Uganda Police, in which he served in different capacities.

Our spy revealed that senior police officers held a brief ceremony at the Police headquarters in Naguru, where  Mugyenyi handed over office to his deputy SCP John Nuwagira, as the Directorate of Human recourse hunts for a possible replacement.

Hailing from Kabwohe Township in Sheema district,  Mugyenyi joined the UPF in 1988 at a lower rank but has over time been progressing up to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP).

President Yoweri Museveni in 2016 appointed him Director of Operations, a position he has held up to his retirement last week. The Directorate of Operations  is mandated with planning, implementation, management, and coordination of all operational activities in the police force and these efforts are demonstrated by other departments of the force.

He also served as Police spokesperson before being replaced by the late AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi. Mugyenyi was also Kamuli District Police Commander before being transferred to Kabarole District as DPC, among other positions.

He joins the list of directors who recently left the force when their contracts expired.

Some of those include

Fred Yiga who was director Interpol, Godfrey Bangirana who headed Logistics and Engineering, Dr. Stephen Kasiima who was commander Traffic Police, among others. At Spy Uganda we wish him well in his next endeavors.
