Today’s arrest follows another one of yesterday after clashing with president Museveni who was also supposed to be in Kitgum. Amuriat after a long scuffle with security operatives, he was arrested and later released before being told to go to campaign in Lamwo district to allow Museveni to meet his people.

Therefore, Amuriat was set to meet his supporters at Awere sports ground this evening, however, he was not allowed still by police that brutally arrested him under allegations of violating the EC and Covid-19 guidelines something that left his supporters aggrieved with police acts hence spicing up bullets and teargas all over Gulu city.

Due to continuous Electoral Commission’s silence amidst tough and brutal arrest against opposition candidates while giving a green light to NRM, presidential candidates Henry Tumukunde and Mugisha Muntu of Alliance For National Transformation, have exclusively revealed that they are in final stages with all opposition presidential candidates to abandon and pull out of the 2021 general elections citing the violence meted on them by security agencies.

Gen. Muntu says it is not necessary to keep campaigning while their colleagues are continuously brutalised by Police. He has since called upon other opposition candidates to boycott the campaigns till government allows Electoral commission to exercise its powers.

We have decided to pause our presidential campaign activities until our colleagues, Amuriat (FDC), Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine are released and their freedom to campaign is guaranteed. We call upon the government to recognise that this isn’t business as usual,” Muntu said through his verified Twitter handle.

The revelation comes after last week Amuriat also threatened to pull out of the campaign trail if police continue disrespecting him and blocking his rallies. This was after police foiled his campaign in Lira City on Saturday by firing teargas and rubber bullets to disperse the crowd that had turned up to wave to him.

Not only in Lira, police still failed him to meet his supporters in Kole after being forced to go back until the recommended campaign time ended while he was confined in his hotel. “We are watching Mr Museveni and his police and if this continues, we shall retreat and FDC will take a position,” he vowed.
