Andrew Ojok Oulanyah Replaces Dad, Elected Omoro MP

Omoro: Andrew Ojok who is the National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer has been declared the winner of the Omoro by election to replace his father the late Rt Hon Jacob Oulanyah former Speaker of Parliament.

According to the Omoro District Returning Officer, Moses Kagona, the NRM candidate Ojok Oulanyah got 14,174 votes defeating 5 other contenders.

Other candidates included National Unity Platform flag bearer Toolit Okecha who got 1,621 votes, Independent candidate Terrence Odong 530 votes, Forum for Democratic Change Justine Odong 520, another independent Jimmy Walter Onen 95 votes and the Alliance for National Transformation flag bearer Oscar Kiiza, who managed to get only 60.

Omoro Parliamentary seat became vacant after the death of former Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Jacob Oulanyah L’Okori who had been the MP from 2001 to 2006 and from 2011 until he died.

The Commission had earlier noted that political parties and independent candidates’ agents would stay at their polling stations throughout the Constituency. However opposition members who were part of this election alleged that their agents were arrested and others kidnapped by security operatives over yet to be known reasons.
