Angolan President Lourenço In Kigali For Rwanda-Uganda Dialogue

Angolan President João Lourenço on Thursday travelled to Rwanda ahead of peace talks in the African Great Lakes region, focused on solving the tension between Rwanda and Uganda.

During his two-day visit, President Lourenço will participate in a four-party summit, along with his counterparts Felix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Paul Kagame of Rwanda and Yoweri Museveni of Uganda, the Secretariat for Institutional Communication and Press Affairs of the President of Luanda revealed today.

The meeting will take place on Friday, February 21, at Gatuna/Katuna border between Rwanda and Uganda, as the three presidents agreed during the quadripartite summit held in Luanda on February 2, 2020.

This will be the fifth meeting, after the one held out on May 31, 2019 in Kinshasa (DRC) and the subsequent three held in Luanda on July 12 and August 21, 2019 and February 2, 2020 respectively.

According to a statement issued early February, the two nations in conflict pledged to exchange prisoners as part of the peace talks which were mediated over by Presidents Lourenço and Tshisekedi.

The move comes shortly after Uganda released 13 more Rwanda nationals and dropped criminal charges against them, as a sign of reinstating peace between the two East African countries.
