Anti-Corruption Drive Gets Boost As State House Unit, ODPP Strengthen Collaboration

Kampala — Efforts to intensify the fight against corruption in Uganda received a significant boost following a high-level meeting between the leadership of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

On Wednesday evening, the Head of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, Henry Isoke, paid a courtesy call on the Director of Public Prosecutions, Lino Anguzu, at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions headquarters in Kampala.

The meeting focused on strengthening joint efforts between the two institutions in tackling corruption, a vice that continues to undermine service delivery and public trust in government systems.

During the engagement, Brig Gen Isoke congratulated Mr. Anguzu upon his recent appointment by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. He commended the DPP for maintaining effective institutional frameworks that have fostered sustained cooperation between the ODPP and the State House Anti-Corruption Unit.

Isoke further applauded the staff of the ODPP for their professionalism and commitment to ensuring seamless collaboration, noting that such synergy is critical in achieving tangible results in the anti-corruption campaign.

He also used the opportunity to brief the DPP on the operational systems and internal dynamics of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, highlighting how the unit continues to execute its mandate in investigating and supporting the prosecution of corruption-related cases.

In his remarks, Mr. Anguzu praised Brig Gen Isoke and his team for what he described as outstanding efforts in combating corruption across the country. He emphasized the importance of refining existing working mechanisms to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

The DPP underscored the need for stronger teamwork and improved coordination between the two agencies, noting that a more integrated approach would significantly boost the success rate in handling corruption cases.

The meeting was attended by several senior officials from both institutions, including Deputy DPP Odumbi James Owere, Chief State Attorneys Jonathan Muwaganya and Eddie Muhumuza, Deputy Head of the Anti-Corruption Unit Israel Ochwo, Consultant Ngolobe Amos, and the Head of Investigations at the Unit, D/SSP Lumala, among others.

The renewed commitment by the two key institutions signals a strengthened front in Uganda’s ongoing fight against corruption, with expectations of more coordinated and impactful interventions in the future.
