Anti-riot Police Besiege Besigye’s Home Ahead Of Anti-Corruption Walk

By Andrew Irumba

A squad of Anti-riot police on Wednesday morning sealed off Peoples Government president Col. Dr Kizza Besigye’s home, so as to prevent him from holding an Anti-Corruption March with several of his supporters.

Besigye and his Peoples Government members had planned to hold a scheduled Anti-Corruption March from his offices at Katonga Road to the Constitutional Square in Kampala.

However, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and several other government officials had also organized an official Anti-Corruption Walk from  the Constitutional Square to Kololo Independence Ground.

So in order to avoid a collision between opposition politicians and President Museveni’s supporters, the police sealed off Besigye’s home in Kasangati in the wee hours of Tuesday night and by morning, not even a mosquito or the smallest insect could pass by the garrison staged outside his home.

Besigye and his group argued that since President Museveni had invited all Ugandans who are against corruption to take part in the activity, they felt they should be part since they are not excluded from the circle of those fighting against corruption.

However, Police spokesperson Fred_Enaga advised Besigye and group to first get police clearance before thinking of joining the walk, which they didn’t do, which is perhaps why his home was sealed off.

But the People’s Government led by Dr Besigye, on the other hand, said the walk by Museveni is to celebrate corruption in the country.

The  police are yet to issue a statement clarifying on why they sealed off Besigye’s home and barred him and his supporters from engaging in the Anti-Corruption Walk
