Archbishop Dr Lwanga Speaks Out On Current MUK Situation

By Peter Ssebulime

The archbishop of Kampala Dr Cyprian Kizito Lwanga has lashed out at security officers who were deployed at Makerere University for brutalized students who stood up against the 15% fees increment.

Dr Lwanga revealed this on Sunday at Lubaga Cathedral, during the celebrations for the 53rd anniversary for Lubaga Parish, in the presence of Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi.

“What happened in Makerere might cause insecurity in the country unless it is handled immediately and in a right way,” Dr Lwanga said.

Dr Lwanga condemned the deplorable levels of indiscipline exihibited by security officers who atatcked students and brutalised them inside their hostels, clobbered them to pulp and left many of them maimed.

The Archbishop urged President Yoweri Museveni, as the head of state, to quickly intervene in the matter by doing something to restore sanity at the University.

In the same vein, the chairman Laity of Kampala Archdiocese Aloysius Ivan Kalanzi, asked the Vice President to raise the MUK issue on behalf of the Catholic Church in cabinet, because it is shaming for security officers who are mandated to protect Uganda and their properties to instead cause insecurity and destruction of property.
