Archbishop Of York Sentamu Starts ‘Save Bishop Mutebi’ Campaign

By Spy Reporter

London, United Kingdom: The health condition of Bishop Hannington Mutebi,59, who is currently bedridden at Kings College Hospital in the United Kingdom continues to deteriorate.

Close family sources reveal that the Bishop needs urgent bone marrow transplant, yet the operation requires over Shs900m, which the family doesn’t have. As a way of helping to raise the money for the transplant Ugandan-born Archbishop of New York, Dr. John Sentamu, has started a fundraising drive for Bishop Mutebi. Dr. Sentamu is fundraising for urgent chemotherapy treatment and bone marrow transplant for Mutebi, who is the Assistant Bishop of Kampala Diocese. Mutebi is battling a rare form of acute myeloid Leukemia, and is in the UK for specialized treatment. Doctors at Kings College Hospital in the UK started treating him this week on grounds that his platelets, energy levels and general condition were dwindling very fast, which endangers his life.

The treatment commenced without the down payment as earlier demanded by the hospital. Now in a new online fundraising campaign on JustGiving website, Dr. Sentamu, says Mutebi needs urgent chemotherapy treatment and bone marrow transplant. He says £190,000 about Shs917m is required by Kings College Hospital London to carry out treatment since no such treatment is available in East Africa. “His own cathedral congregation and friends have raised £35,000 (16.8 million) in the past week. Can we in the UK and round the world raise the rest by Thursday 31st January? This means getting as many people as possible to give in this very short time. Every gift will make a difference. I ask you to join me in doing what we can to help,” appeals Archbishop Sentamu.
