Kampala: Six thugs armed with a Sub-Machine Gun (SMG) and a pistol shot and injured Pilson Okot number 1068, a private security guard who was guarding at a  supermarket in Mpererwe which they robbed.

The thugs, who were traveling on three numberless motorcycles, attacked City Supermarket  and when Okot, who was attached to Tight Security, tried to confront them, they shot him. They later forced their way into the super market, put everyone on gunpoint and robbed unspecified amounts of cash.

It is said that after the robbery, they attacked a mobile money agent who works just next to the supermarket and robbed her of Shs4.5m. Police responded 15 minutes later after receiving call about the two incidents from the victims. Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, said that “The police is actively pursuing any leads that can lead to the arrest of these suspects.” He added that Okot, who had bravely confronted these six thugs was announced dead on arrival at Mulago hospital. “He had been shot twice and later died because of the wounds he had gotten from the gunshots,” Owoyesigyire said.

“We have also gotten details that the thugs shot at a car which tried to block them as they were trying to flee, thereby injuring one person on the leg.”He added.  Details of the injured will be provided because she is currently receiving medical attention in Mulago. “Investigations are still ongoing in the matter but we would like to caution the business community to always be vigilant and try target hardening measures like employing guards who are armed, since it has been established that Okot wasn’t armed.  We will also heighten our patrols around all areas in KMP to avoid any of the same incident from happening again,”  Oweyesigire noted. The police are still hunting for the killers to be brought to book.
