A joint team of the army, Local Defence Unit (LDU) and police is hunting for yet to be identified drunkards who severely attacked a Uganda People’s Defence Officer last Thursday night, as he executed his duties during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) curfew hours.

It is alleged that Maj. Robert Nkwasibwe, who is attached to Kyankwanzi National Leadership Institute (NALI), was attacked by goons in Gala trading as he patrolled the area together with other soldiers.

Karemire revealed that shortly after the attack, the army managed to arrest some of the attackers although others fled, leaving behind eight motorcycles and  three bicycles  which were later seized and impounded at Rusozi Police station as investigations continue.

According to sources, Maj.Robert Nkwasibwe was rushed to Hoima Referral hospital unconscious after being attacked by goons late in the night during a patrol with fellow officers.

Karemire added,“Reports indicate that Maj.Nkwasibwe could have sustained serious head and neck injuries.”

“UPDF, Police and other security forces have often called upon the population to desist from flouting the directives for the sake of their lives and avoid being confrontational. This puts both the forces and wanainchi on the risk of contracting Covid-19 as well as injuries from attackers or even uncalled for injuries resulting from self defense by the forces,” Brig. Karemire cautioned.
