A new star is born in Uganda women’s basketball ranks as Sylvia Nantongo put on a show to help her country to a 3-1 mark in the FIBA U18 Women’s Africa Championship Zone 5 qualifier over the weekend in Kampala, Uganda.

The Gazelles as the team is called, defeated Tanzania 63-46 in the deciding game played on Sunday.

Though, Tanzania had to play with just 8 players, Anjela Minja was the shinning star for her side with 10 points to her credit.

Uganda closed the regional qualifier with 9 points to top the table despite losing one game to Rwanda.

The loss to neighbouring Rwanda was not enough to stop from winning Zone 5, and secure their place in the Final Round.

In their second face-off with Rwanda on Friday, the Gazelles lost 52-43.
