A major political storm is brewing inside the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) following the official nomination of Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among for the influential post of Second National Vice Chairperson (Female) on the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) — a seat currently held by First Deputy Prime Minister Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga.

Among’s nomination, which was formally submitted today at the NRM Electoral Commission offices in Kampala, signals her bold entry into the highest level of party leadership. She was flanked by a wave of enthusiastic supporters and key NRM figures, underlining the magnitude of her candidacy.
“I come with commitment, experience, and a passion to serve my party at the highest level,” Among declared shortly after her nomination. “I believe in unity, strengthening party organs, and empowering women across Uganda.”

Her announcement sets the stage for a dramatic intra-party clash between two of the most powerful women in Ugandan politics. On one side stands Among — the assertive, youthful face of a new generation within NRM leadership. On the other, Kadaga — a political titan and trailblazer who has served the party and country for decades, and now seeks to defend her seat.

Scheduled for August 22, 2025, the upcoming CEC elections have already attracted national attention. The faceoff between Among and Kadaga has emerged as the defining contest of the cycle, not merely as a competition for position, but as a broader reflection of shifting power dynamics and the evolving role of women in the political mainstream.

Political analysts suggest this race could have ripple effects on NRM’s internal cohesion and strategic posture ahead of the 2026 general elections. With both contenders boasting deep political capital and expansive grassroots networks, the race promises to be fierce, calculated, and historic.
“This isn’t just about personalities — it’s about the direction of the party,” noted one observer. “Among brings energy and new influence; Kadaga brings legacy and tested leadership. The outcome could realign the NRM’s power map going forward.”
As the campaigns take shape, all eyes will be on how this high-stakes political duel unfolds — one that pits generational ambition against seasoned legacy within the heart of Uganda’s most dominant political force.
