On the morning of Thursday, March 19, 2026, the virtual halls of Makerere University Business School (MUBS) came alive with purpose, ambition, and inspiration as students, lecturers, and aspiring entrepreneurs gathered for the weekly Become a Better Entrepreneur Series—a flagship initiative of the Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Incubation Centre.

This program, designed to transform young graduates from job seekers into job creators, has steadily grown into a powerful platform where real-life experiences meet academic ambition. By hosting accomplished professionals from diverse fields, the series bridges the gap between theory and practice—offering students not just knowledge, but lived wisdom.

At the heart of this initiative is a commitment to nurturing resilience, creativity, and entrepreneurial courage—values that were vividly brought to life during this particular session.

A Platform That Shapes Futures

The Become a Better Entrepreneur Series is more than a weekly engagement; it is a movement within MUBS that seeks to redefine how young people perceive opportunity. Through candid conversations and personal storytelling, speakers challenge students to think beyond conventional career paths and embrace innovation, risk-taking, and self-reliance.

One of the key figures behind this transformative platform is Dr. Diana Ntamu, a dedicated lecturer at MUBS and a passionate advocate for youth empowerment. As one of the hosts of the series, she plays a vital role in curating conversations that resonate with the realities of today’s entrepreneurial landscape. Her commitment to mentorship and academic excellence continues to inspire countless students navigating the uncertain terrain of business and innovation.

The Voice of Resilience

The highlight of the session was a powerful presentation by Andrew Irumba Katusabe, an accomplished investigative journalist, media entrepreneur, and Pan-African advocate.

Speaking on the theme “The Spirit of Resistance and Never Giving Up,” Irumba delivered more than a lecture—he shared a deeply personal journey marked by struggle, persistence, and unwavering belief in purpose.

From humble beginnings with no financial backing or institutional support, Irumba narrated how he built influential media platforms including TheSpy Uganda, Detective-UG, TheSpy Television and The Pan African Pyramid organization that now boasts of a continental and global membership network.  His story resonated strongly with the audience, many of whom face similar uncertainties at the start of their careers.

He emphasized that success is rarely a straight path. Instead, it is shaped by obstacles, doubt, and moments when giving up seems easier than pushing forward.

“Resilience is built when there is no visible sign of success,” he noted. “It is the decision to continue anyway.”

Resistance as a Way of Life

For Irumba, resistance is not merely reacting to hardship—it is a mindset. In his work as an investigative journalist, it means speaking truth to power despite risks. In his leadership roles, including his presidency of the Independent Online Journalists Association (INDOJA-U) and his work with the Pan-African Pyramid as its founding speaker and Chairman, it means challenging systems and creating new pathways where none exist.

His message was clear: true success goes beyond personal achievement. It lies in building systems that uplift others, amplify voices, and create lasting impact.

Throughout the session, students were drawn into a narrative that felt both aspirational and attainable. Irumba distilled his journey into practical lessons:

  • Believe in your vision, even when others doubt it
  • Start with what you have, even if it feels insufficient
  • Embrace challenges as part of growth
  • Stay consistent, even when progress is invisible
  • Never give up

These were not abstract principles—they were lived experiences, tested through years of persistence and sacrifice.

A Lasting Impression

As the session concluded, one message lingered in the minds of attendees: your starting point does not define your destination—your persistence does.

The Become a Better Entrepreneur Series once again proved its value—not just as a learning platform, but as a catalyst for transformation. Through voices like Andrew Irumba Katusabe and the stewardship of leaders like Dr. Diana Ntamu, MUBS continues to shape a generation that is bold enough to resist limitations and resilient enough to never give up.
