Bishop Ssemwogerere Cautions Health Professionals On Corruption

Luwero: Rt. Rev. Bishop Paul Ssemwogerere, of Kasana Luweero Diocese, has warned doctors, nurses and physicians to desist from indulging in corruption if they want to maintain professionalism in their work.

Bishop Ssemogerere, who was officiating over the 27th graduation ceremony for St. Francis Nsambya School of Nursing and Midwifery, said that corruption has become a disease among Ugandans, which infects people with a burning desire to attain Riches within a short time.

TTITI “This has seen many medical professionals engage in anti-life practices like facilitating abortions, giving wrong medicines and procedures, which is killing the heart of the health profession in the world. The sin of disregarding God in the health profession should not destroy the knowledge, skills and belief of the medical practitioners at least those trained under the Catholic Church.” Bishop Ssemwogerere cautioned, as he led the Eucharistic celebration at the graduation ceremony, at which 264 students graduated with certificates and diplomas in Nursing, Midwifery and Laboratory technology.

In a related development, the Bishop Emeritus of Masaka diocese Rt. Rev John Baptist Kaggwa, who led the Eucharistic sacrifice at the 4th Graduation ceremony of the University of Kisubi, which is run by the Brothers of Christian Instruction, challenged graduands to use the knowledge acquired in class to change the mindset of people in their communities.

Bishop Kaggwa said that “People are ignorant about many things that would promote their lives and the community they live in, which has left many of them suffering from all sorts of problems and injustices.”

He also expressed concern about the brain drain with many people, including the educated ones, yearning to go abroad for greener pastures where at times they have ended up in more desperate situations, while others remain on the streets with their papers looking for jobs which are still a challenge to the country.

The Chief Guest at the UoK graduation ceremony was the First Lady Janet Katha Museveni, who is also the Minister of education and sports. She promised the university continuous support since it has put emphasis on science education.

In his statement, the Chancellor Bro. Peter Kazekulya, cautioned the graduates that as they join the world of employment, they should focus most on building their careers based on professionalism and integrity.

A total number of 321 have graduated in various disciplines such as Bio-medical laboratory, education, social science among others and were awarded Diplomas and degrees.
