Bloody! Tears, screams and agony hovers over Monitor offices as restructuring process takes shape; Three Top Editors axed!

Namwongo based Monitor Publications Limited (UPL), owners of Daily Monitor has axed three of its senior news editors in a move to start the implementation of the ‘restructuring process’ that was announced a fortnight ago by its Managing Director, Mr. Tonny Glencross.

The three editors lost their jobs in a communicated delivered to them by the company’s Human resource department.

They are; Caesar Abangira who was known to be very versatile with a wide range of knowledge about general, business and sports news. Secret sources we talked to at  the Namuwongo based newspaper said he could have lost his job for ‘not being in good books’ with top managers. Abangira, has worked on the news desk and at the time of his sacking was the Deputy Sports Editor. Caesar has also worked with Rwanda’s New Times.

William Lubulwa, the Business Editor was reportedly offered another position which he declined to take up thereby quitting the company.

Edna Kyokunzire, a Sub-Editor on business desk who had just returned from her honeymoon following her wedding in December was also axed! Edna previously worked for the Namanve based Pepper publication Ltd, accompany that produces The Red Pepper news paper.

Also shown exit door was David Mafabi, who was Daily Monitor’s Buraeu Chief in Mbale.

Top management announced two weeks ago that the media houses are set to consolidate departments and operations with the top bosses confirming that some employees would be fired as the company struggles to sail in the murky waters of digital media.

The SpyUganda  understands that the entire sales department has also been dissolved, with the Nation Media Group naming three other General Managers including Daniel Kalinaki for Daily Monitor Editorial, Moses Ssesanga, former Monitor Manager for Human Resources who was elevated to General Manager for Human Resources and Sam Barata, who was appointed General Manager Sales and Advertising.
