Breaking: Ex-MUK VC Prof. Baryamureeba Knocks Woman Dead, Arrested

Former Makerere University Vice Chancellor Prof. Venacious Baryamureeba is breathing behind bars after he was arrested Wednesday afternoon over allegations of knocking a pedestrian dead.

According to information from our Spies, Prof. Baryamureeba was booked into cells at Kabalagala police station cells as detectives investigate a fatal accident that claimed the life of one, a lady.

Sources at Kampala Metropolitan police reveal that the tragic incident occurred after a vehicle with personalized plates “U”, which was being driven by Prof. Baryamureeba, knocked two female pedestrians and a perimeter wall at the Kibuli-Muyenga junction, in Makindye Division, killing one of them instantly.

According to police, the deceased has since been identified as Mariam Jagenda, whose body was later taken to Mulago KCCA Mortuary for postmortem as investigations continue.

Luke Owoyesigire, the deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) spokesperson, said; “The second victim Namusoke Mariam is still admitted at Mulago hospital.”

He added that “The suspect Prof. Baryamureeba Venacious, is detained at Kabalagala Police Station as investigations into the cause of accident are underway.”

The vehicle is parked at Police yard pending Inspector of Vehicles (IOV) inspection.

Baryamureeba, born 18 May 1969, is a Ugandan mathematician, computer scientist, academic, and academic administrator.

 He was the Acting vice chancellor of the Uganda Technology and Management University, a private university in Uganda, from September 2013 until 28 September 2015.

He left the position to join the presidential race in Uganda to take place in 2016. Before that, he served as the vice chancellor of Makerere University from November 2009 until August 2012. Watch this space for details!
