The High Court in Kampala has nullified the election of Luyimbazi Elias Nalukoola as the directly Elected Member of Parliament for Kawempe Division North constituency in Kampala District.
Justice Bernard Namanya, in a ruling delivered on May 26, 2025, made the following orders:
1. That the election of Luyimbazi Elias Nalukoola as a Directly Elected Member of Parliament for Kawempe Division North constituency in Kampala District is set aside.
2. That the seat for the Directly Elected Member of Parliament for Kawempe Division North constituency in Kampala District is declared vacant.
3. That the Electoral Commission is ordered to conduct a fresh election for the Directly Elected Member of Parliament for Kawempe Division North constituency in Kampala District.
4. That each party shall meet its own costs.
This decision follows a petition challenging Nalukoola’s victory in the 2025 by election, citing irregularities that were deemed significant enough to warrant nullification.
The ruling effectively means that Kawempe Division North will have to head back to the polls to elect a new representative. The Electoral Commission is now expected to set a date for the fresh election.
