Breaking: Six UNRA Staff Test Positive To COVID-19!

Kampala: The latest COVID-19 information landing on our desk is that six Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) staff members have tested positive for the deadly COVID-19.

According to the statement issued by UNRA management, out of the six (06) cases, five have been confirmed at UNRA Headquarters, Nakawa Business Park and one at UNRA in Masindi Station Office.

The confirmed cases are from four hundred ninety four (494) sample tested on 19″ and 20th August, 2020 for which results for 222 samples have been received.

UNRA Statement On Their Staff Testing COVID-19 Positive

The statement adds that UNRA Management took a decision to conduct testing of their staff for COVID-19 as an active measure to detect and prevent the spread of the virus and to off quote support to staff in a timely manner.

Upon confirmation of the virus, UNRA Management, together with the Ministry of Health have since rolled out the effective incident management protocols and the much needed health support team that will include psychosocial services to our affected members of sta rently under medical care.

“We appeal to all our clients and the general public to continue practicing proper health hygiene as advised by the Ministry of Health including regular washing, wearing facemasks, avoiding close contact and refraining from shaking hands among others” UNRA advised.

It added, “Authority pledges full support and cooperation in this regard and remains enable partner in the fight against this deadly virus.”

This comes after Ministry of Health confirmed 99 new cases and 2 deaths from results of COVID-19 tests done on 23 August 2020 which brings the cumulative total of confirmed cases to 2,362,1248 recoveries and 22 total deaths.

Among the new infections, 49 are from Kampala, 8 from Kikube, 5 from Gulu, Sironko 4, Lamwo 3, Luweero 2, Tororo 2, Yumbe 2, Mbale 1, Abim 1, Amuru 1, Bundibugyo 1, Kotido 1, Kiryandongo 1 and Namisindwa 1.

Ministry has also revealed that five health workers, six returnees and 4 truck drivers also tested positive for COVID-19.
