Kampala: Uganda registered the second COVID-19 death on Sunday, after an 80-year-old lady, who was a resident of Mengo, Kisenyi III zone, succumbed to the virus,TheSpy Uganda reports.
The Ministry of Health in a statement issued Sunday has revealed that the deceased presented signs and symptoms consistent with COVID-19 which included cough, fever, chest pain and difficulty in breathing. The statement was issued after Mengo Hospital medics notified the Health Ministry and Kampala Capital City Authority about the lady’s death.
The Ministry added that the deceased was first admitted at Platinum Hospital in Kampala but was later referred to Mengo Hospital for further treatment after her health condition deteriorated.
“She was referred to Mengo hospital from Platinum on July 24 but unfortunately passed away on the same day at 6:30PM,” the Ministry of Health statement said in part.
Later, during postmortem, samples were analyzed both at Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI) and Makerere University Laboratories which confirmed that the deceased had died as a result of SARS-COV-2. “The contact tracing and listing process have been initiated. Additional information will be shared accordingly,” the Ministry added in the statement.
In the same vein twelve (12) new COVID-19 cases were confirmedon Sunday, raising Uganda’s cases to 1,115 , with 195 recoveries.
Out of the twelve (12) confirmed new cases; one (1) is a truck driver who arrived via Mirama Hills and sevenare contacts to previously confirmed cases that include three (3) from Tororo, two (2) from Mbale, one (1) from Kampala and one (1) from Isingiro districts.
One (1) arrived from Kenya; regarding alerts, one (1) is from Amuru district and two (2) are from Kampala of which one passed on.
Regarding truck drivers,15 foreign truck drivers that included 6 Kenyans, 6 Tanzanians 1 Congolese,1 Ethiopian and 1 Somali tested positive for COVID-19 at the border points of entry and their entry into the country was not permitted.
