At mutima Island, 13 party dwellers have been confirmed dead as a boat they were traveling on capsized on Lake Victoria on Saturday!
The boat was carrying about 120 people. Police marine has so far managed to rescue 40 alive, but others are still unacounted for.
Among those rescued include Buganda kingdom’s prince Wasajja, Freeman Kiyingi and musician Irine Namubiru among others.
So far eye witnesses say the cause of the accident could have been due to over loading. Another eyewitness said the boat had been under repair and was not yet fit to be used as it was still undergoing service.
The group left Port bell Luzira aboard a boat belonging to a one Templar who offers boat cruise services, and were headed to Mutima Island on Lake Victoria.
However, as they sailed, the boat was wrecked by weight, breaking into two and pouring its contents in the lake.
Uganda Police Spokesperson Emilian Kayima confirmed the accident.
“Yes it is true, Police Marine is handling the tragedy,” he said.
“Our marine unit teams have rescued over 40 people alive. Ten confirmed dead. The rescue mission is still on to find others,” he added. RIP.
