The Head of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SH-ACU), Brig. Gen. Henry Isoke, has urged Uganda’s future health professionals to uphold patriotism, integrity, and mindset change as key tools in the ongoing fight against corruption.

Speaking to over 400 students and staff of the Jinja School of Nursing and Midwifery on Friday, Brig. Gen. Isoke said corruption remains a threat to the nation’s progress and called upon young people—especially those joining the health sector—to lead by example in building a corruption-free Uganda.
The interactive session was part of a Patriotism and Mindset Change Training organized by the National Secretariat for Patriotism Corps (NSPC).

“Patriotism in the health sector is not just about talk, but a daily discipline shown through integrity, empathy, discipline, and teamwork in service to patients,” Gen. Isoke told the trainees. “Every honest act of care is an act of patriotism.”
He reminded the students of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s message that every Ugandan must “fight corruption wherever you are, fight for your portion.” Gen. Isoke emphasized that corruption begins with individual decisions, urging the future nurses and midwives to make choices rooted in honesty and accountability.

Despite acknowledging the persistence of corruption in some government institutions—including within the health sector—the General praised government efforts to improve healthcare delivery across the country. He highlighted achievements such as expanded ICU capacity, reduced maternal deaths, and a significant drop in mother-to-child HIV transmission.
“Corruption in healthcare doesn’t just steal medicine—it steals lives and the future of our nation,” he cautioned.
Brig. Gen. Isoke encouraged the students to view their profession not just as a job but as a service to humanity and a patriotic duty. He also commended the National Secretariat for Patriotism Corps, led by Ms. Hellen Seku, for championing moral values and patriotism among Uganda’s youth.
The event was attended by Ms. Mulabiza Mebra, the Principal of Jinja School of Nursing and Midwifery; Ms. Zalwango Madina, Principal Officer in charge of Higher Institutions at NSPC; and Mr. Waiswa Zawayo, Patriotism Coordinator for Iganga District.
Brig. Gen. Isoke concluded his engagement with a call to action:
“The fight against corruption starts with you. Where you will work, stand for integrity and serve with honor. That is how you build the Uganda we all desire.”
