Kampala: Buganda kingdom has lost a great and historical person Owek. James Bwogi, father to David Musiri, who is currently in police detention over the Makerere ‘Fees Increment Must Fall’ protests.

Owek. Bwogi is hero number 24 in Buganda kingdom, whose service dates back to 1966 when he saved Ssekabaka Muteesa II from a raid on his palace by former president Milton Obote’s army.

A story is told that Bwogi saved the monarch by carrying Kabaka Muteesa on his shoulders and toppling him over the wall fence of Mengo palace. He then jumped over and drove him off via Lubaga to Ssembabule from where the Kabaka escaped to London through Rwanda.

It is alleged that Bwogi also played for the national team as a defender and represented Uganda in the Africa Cup of Nations during the lddi Amin era.

He passed away on Thursday night October 24, 2019, after battling a longtime bout of cancer and his burial arrangements shall be communicated after a tentative programme being released by a team of Mengo officials and his family members.
