The police in Bukedea District, Eastern Uganda, are hunting for suspected gunmen who allegedly tried to assassinate the district Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Among Anet Anita, on Friday night.
Hon. Anita is said to have been alerted by the Bukedea District Police Commander (DPC) Ezra Tugume, who said they were following the two gunmen riding towards her home until they disappeared upon noticing that they’re being pursued.
Tugume said that “These attackers always hunt for the MP’s life whenever she travels back home.”
He added that the suspected assassins always cross from the neighboring district of Sironko via Aminit Sub County towards her home in Apopong.
“We have so many issues to do with security in the district. These gunmen only appear when the honorable is at her home. It can never happen when she is away but I’m working along with the District Internal Security Officer (DISO) to see that we put the missing gaps together.”’
He noted that they are working hard to see that Aminit Sub County also gets a police post to help in curbing the insecurity the locals are facing.
He also appealed to the members of the public to be on the lookout for any suspicious person and always alert the security team in case they suspect anyone of foul play.
Hon. Anita said that she has been receiving life threatening messages from yet to be identified people but noted that God is her only protector.
