Health services at Bukuku Health Centre IV have received a significant boost following the delivery of a modern ultrasound scan machine by the Government of Uganda, a move aimed at strengthening maternal and child healthcare in the area.

The equipment was officially launched by the State Minister for Primary Health Care, Margaret Muhanga, who also serves as the area Member of Parliament for North Division. Speaking at the launch, she commended the government for prioritizing health facilities with essential medical equipment and urged health workers to utilize the machine effectively to improve service delivery.

“This equipment should translate into better care for our mothers and children. Let us ensure it is put to proper use to save lives and improve outcomes,” she said.

Also speaking at the event, Dr. Richard Mugahi, a Commissioner at the Ministry of Health Uganda, applauded the government and its partners for prioritizing maternal healthcare. He emphasized the importance of regular antenatal visits, noting that the new ultrasound machine will enable health workers to closely monitor pregnancies and detect complications early to ensure safer deliveries.

Dr. Mugahi further encouraged parents to take advantage of routine immunization services, stressing that vaccination remains critical in protecting children from preventable diseases.

The Mayor of North Division, Joseph Mashuko Kiiza, welcomed the development, describing it as a timely intervention for mothers, especially those from hard-to-reach mountainous areas who previously had to travel long distances to access scanning services.

The facility’s administration also expressed appreciation to the government for its continued support, assuring the public that ultrasound scanning services will be offered free of charge to expectant mothers at the health centre.

An expectant mother at the facility welcomed the new development, saying the availability of scanning services at Bukuku will reduce the financial burden many families previously incurred seeking services from private hospitals. She noted that access to timely scans will help mothers better monitor their pregnancies and improve chances of delivering healthy babies.

Local leaders and health officials believe the new equipment will significantly enhance maternal and child health services at Bukuku Health Centre IV and encourage more mothers to seek skilled medical care.
