Bunyangabu Residents Decry Poor State Of Roads, Leaders Put It On Govt’s Poverty

By Andrew Irumba

Residents of Buheesi Town Council, Bunyangabu district have raised an alarm over the poor state of roads which their leaders say is due to the government’s low budget allocation to the district.

According to Bunyangabu District LCV Chairman Ategeka James Mugarama aka Entale, Buheesi Town council received a paltry UGX 4million (yes, you heard it, 4m!) in the financial year 2021/2022 for rehabilitation of all Town Council roads!

The entire district was budgeted to get shs45m for road maintenance for the entire year, which hasn’t even been fulfilled yet.

The salary of a KCCA Executive director per month is approximately shs 43m before other benefits.

Ategeka was answering a question from the locals as to why the roads are so impassable.

This happened today at the burial of Kabarole District Fisheries senior officer Sabiiti George William in Kaigereka, Buheesi, Bunyangabu District. Sabiiti was on Saturday morning found dead along a small path to his home in Boma, Fort Portal, Kabarole District.

Sabiiti served as Senior Fisheries Officer, Kabarole district Local Government since 2000. He had just retired three months ago after clocking the mandatory age of 60 years.
