Business Tycoon Haruna Sentongo Pardons Six Months Rent Arrears For 120 Tenants In His Multi-billion Haruna Mall In Ntinda

Kampala: Tenants at the prominent Haruna shopping mall in Ntinda are smiling from ear to ear after their landlord, cancelled 6 months rent arrears due to the impacts of covid-19 lockdown. The good news came as a shock to over 120 tenants of city businessman Haruna Sentongo.

Sentongo revealed that rent arrears amounting to over 1 billion shillings have been waved aiming to help his tenants revive their businesses that suffered during the six months of lockdown that was imposed by the Government to help curb the spread of Covid-19 pandemic.

“In my opinion, we need each other to work. During hard times like we are facing now, we must understand that the economic crisis has affected everyone,” Sentongo noted.

President Museveni in an effort to control the spread of Covid-19, he imposed lockdown hence affecting the economy including arcades and shopping malls.

However, when he reopened the above business centres in June, hungry landlords demanded their arrears prompting conflict between both parties.

Traders through their multiple platforms have since engaged with the government to negotiate with landlords on rent arrears but this has hit a dead end as some traders have been thrown out of their shops while others lost their property worth millions to their landlords.
