The development follows a letter of acceptance from Dr. Bitature to Uganda Chess Federation (UCF) President, Eng. Mwaka Emmanuel, who plays a central role in the strategic direction of the Chess Federation.

Bitature holds an honorary doctorate and is a graduate of the London School of Accountancy in the UK.

He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, a shrewd businessman, entrepreneur and philanthropist.

He is expected to bring a wealth of knowledge, experience and proven managerial skills to UCF.

He is also the Founder, Chairman and CEO of Simba Group, an East African conglomerate with business interests in real estate, hotel and hospitality, telecommunications, oil and gas, agriculture, media, energy and health insurance, among others.

He pledged to do his best to connect and champion chess like other games within his business circles.

“UCF continues to lobby relevant government agencies and key decision makers in Uganda to recognize the significant opportunities presented by failures in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and therefore comply with it by taking advantage of the necessary support from UCF to facilitate the implementation of UN General Assembly resolutions.

The invitation of Dr Patrick Bitature to serve as UCF Patron comes at a time when the UCF Executive Committee has positioned chess as one of the top sports in Uganda and is expected to carry through into the next half century, focusing on sustainability programs with the sport of chess at the forefront of the 2030 Agenda that will transform and propel Uganda to greater heights.

The announcement comes a week ahead of the visit of HE Arkady Dvorkovich, President of the World Chess Federation (FIDE) to Uganda.

The FIDE President will make a first visit to Uganda to commemorate a high-level Planning and Development Commission (PDC) meeting between senior FIDE officials and the presidents/delegates of all national chess federations in Africa, to be held on February 22, 2022 in Kampala.
