Police in Nebbi District have arrested a suspect in connection with the theft of a motorcycle, following a swift and coordinated response that involved the deployment of a police sniffer dog.

The suspect, identified as Munguryek Morgan, is currently in custody at Nebbi Police Station on allegations of stealing a motorcycle belonging to Jakisa Emmy Saviour.

According to preliminary police findings, the incident occurred on January 26, 2026, when Jakisa woke up to discover that his motorcycle had been stolen from where it had been parked. He immediately reported the matter to police under SD Reference 15/27/01/2026 and requested the deployment of a police sniffer dog to assist with the investigation.

A team of police officers, led by a trained dog handler, promptly responded to the scene, which was found to be well preserved. The police sniffer dog, identified as T/P 237 Pablo, was introduced to the scent bed and successfully picked up a human scent believed to have been left by the suspect.

The dog tracked the scent for approximately 80 metres, leading officers to a location where a motorcycle handle had been abandoned. The trail continued through the surrounding area and eventually led the police team to a nearby residence.
After briefly circling the compound, the sniffer dog proceeded directly to a pit latrine, where the suspect was found hiding. Munguryek Morgan was immediately arrested and escorted to Nebbi Police Station to assist with further investigations.

Police recovered the motorcycle handle, which has since been secured as an exhibit as inquiries continue. Authorities have commended the effective use of canine support in crime detection and reiterated their commitment to tackling theft and safeguarding property in the district.
