Uganda To Host CECAFA 2021 Competitions-Regional Association Confirms

Kampala: The Council of East and Central African Football Associations (CECAFA) has confirmed the hosts for all the CECAFA competitions that will be played in 2021.

The CECAFA senior challenge cup will be held in Ethiopia while the CECAFA Kagame Cup will be hosted by Tanzania.

The development was confirmed following CECAFA members meeting at Sofitel Hotel in Rabat, Morocco on Thursday, ahead of the General Assembly of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The members also agreed that this year’s CECAFA region senior tournament will be a U-23 competition as opposed to the past when it was open to all.

In the same meeting, it was decided that Djibouti will host the CECAFA Senior Women’s Challenge and Uganda will host the U-20 Women’s Challenge Cup. Kenya will host the CAF Women’s Champions League Zonal Competition.

“We deliberated well and members decided that we have five tournaments taking place through the year,” CECAFA Executive Director Auka Gaceho confirmed.

“We are optimistic the region will have very successful tournaments during the year,” added Gacheo.

It was also resolved that all Club and Senior competitions will be staged between June and August when the Leagues are on a break, while the Age-grade competitions, will be staged during School breaks.
