Kampala: Veteran journalist Charles Mwanguhya Mpagi has officially returned to NBS Television, marking a comeback to mainstream journalism after a brief and unsuccessful venture into elective politics.
NBS announced that Mwanguhya will once again host The Frontline, the station’s flagship Thursday night political talk show, where he built a reputation as one of Uganda’s most respected current affairs interviewers before leaving active journalism.
Mwanguhya, one of Uganda’s most experienced political journalists, stepped away from the newsroom to contest for the Burahya County parliamentary seat in Kabarole District during the 2026 General Elections. Running as an independent candidate, but failed, marking another unsuccessful attempt to enter elective politics.
His return has generated excitement among viewers and political observers, many of whom regard him as a calm, analytical and incisive moderator capable of steering balanced discussions on national issues.
Throughout a journalism career spanning more than two decades, Mwanguhya has worked with several leading media houses, including Nation media Group, earning recognition for his in-depth political analysis, investigative reporting and moderation of high-profile debates. His interviews have featured key government officials (MDAs), opposition leaders, diplomats, ministers and key policymakers from across the region.
The transition from journalism to politics and back again is not unprecedented in Uganda. Several journalists have ventured into elective politics with mixed fortunes before returning to the profession. Mwanguhya’s comeback is therefore seen by many as a return to familiar territory where he made his strongest mark.
With Uganda navigating a rapidly evolving political landscape following the 2026 elections, his return to The Frontline is expected to add experience and depth to political discourse on NBS TV.
The programme airs every Thursday 10pm-midnight with viewers anticipating the seasoned journalist’s trademark probing interviews and informed analysis as he resumes his role at the helm of one of Uganda’s most watched political talk shows.
